-Event helps deepen understanding about the blind

POSCO DAEWOO employees made educational materials for visually impaired students at its headquarters in Songdo, west of Seoul, in a social contribution campaign. The event was held from April 11 to 14 with about 600 POSCO DAEWOO employees and staff members of the the Siloam Center for the Blind. During the event, participants made large “touchable paintings” and Braille books for students.

Touchable paintings refer to artworks drawn with raised lines and dots using tactile materials, like Braille, so that visually impaired people can “see” them with their hands. Touchable paintings made during the event will be displayed at the Siloam Center’s gallery and about 100 Braille books will be distributed to welfare centers for the blind located in Incheon and other regions.

POSCO DAEWOO officials said this campaign will present blind people with a cultural and educational opportunity to see pictures and learn with Braille books.

“I was able to deepen understanding about blind people through the event,” a POSCO DAEWOO employee said. “I hope that my efforts will help improve the educational environment of blind students.”

POSCO DAEWOO will continue to host campaigns to support blind people.
