POSCO DAEWOO helps Uzbeks see again

-POSCO DAEWOO, Vision Care host 7-day clinic to help Uzbeks with eye diseases
-1,000 people receive free surgery or other medical treatment
-About 7,000 Uzbeks have benefited since 2014  
 
POSCO DAEWOO and international relief organization Vision Care ran a clinic at Bukhara General Hospital in Uzbekistan from Apr. 16-22 to help people with eye diseases.  
 

Nearly 1,000 people suffering from serious eye problems, such as cataracts, pterygium and weak vision, received free surgery or other medical treatment.  
 

POSCO DAEWOO has operated a textile plant in Bukhara, 670 kilometers west of the Uzbek capital of Tashkent, since 2008. 
 

Twenty employees at the plant joined the campaign, offering a variety of support activities, such as interpreting. The company has helped cash-strapped people with eye problems in Bukhara and Fergana since 2014. About 7,000 people have benefited. 
“This region is hot and dry, which is a typical desert climate, and this has led to many people suffering from eye diseases,” said Kim Il Woo, president of Daewoo textile Fergana “We will continue to contribute to this community to make sure the company and people in the region will flourish together.”   
 

Salomov Ummat, 77, a Bukhara resident who had his cataracts removed, expressed gratitude. “I’m very happy because my vision has been restored,” he said. “Now I can see my family members again.”  
 

POSCO DAEWOO has offered medical and educational services to many developing countries, including Myanmar and Indonesia.
